Techno-Environmental Mission Evaluation of Combined Cycle Gas Turbines for Large Container Ship Propulsion

The stringent regulations set by the International Maritime Organization on pollutant emissions combined with rise in fuel prices have stimulated research cleaner fuels and new propulsion systems. This study describes a method for evaluating alternative technologies that can be utilised marine sector to replace heavy oil diesel engines, thus improve their performance while lowering carbon dioxide nitrogen oxide emissions. proposed techno-environmental technique allows consistent evaluation of simple intercooler/reheat gas steam cycles fuelled liquefied natural gas, instead two-stroke engine fuel, as system large container ship. implementation enhanced cycles, increases engine’s efficiency 11% compared engines run oil, decreasing 44.7% 76.3%, respectively. In addition, advantages using cycle burn LNG over burning are demonstrated.
